You might have read about Intercalation.

In the Middle Ages when you wanted to fill a yearly cycle,

sometimes you had to add a 13th month.

Only if the first of the month fell on the first day of spring solstice.

I mean, we're talking a time where days, months, years, were counted off

since the beginning of creation, a time when the world was only 5000 years old.

If you add a 13th month that means the new year

doesn't start on January 1st.

It starts

today,

October 15th.

So you might say that

this is the first day of the new year.

You might say that the first day

doesn't start until the sun comes up.

It actually starts the night before

at twilight

when the sun goes down

and the stars go up

and they fill the sky.
