I'm in Reno, Nevada right now, y'all,

on my way to the world famous Mustang Ranch,

where there's some cowgirls, and they are doing some riding.

It was only in 1971 that Nevada

got its first officially licensed brothel,

and here it is, Mustang Ranch.

Created by an Italian immigrant that loved to indulge,

Joe Conforte made sure it was the biggest

and the most famous.

who's gonna teach me all about what it's like

- You know, just to get like my legal hoe license.

- Oh, so we don't say the word hoe.

So, we are working ladies or courtesans.

Courtesans.

- This is a professional environment.

- Courtesan is a word I haven't heard before.

- Courtesan means lady of the night, a working lady.

I don't say hooker, or prostitute in my vocabulary.

I normally say sex worker. - And sex worker.

- So what do the ladies prefer when it comes to a client?

Because I'm sure there's been a guy like,

- Oh yeah, they'll stop them dead in their tracks

if they say that.

They educate them, and just,

this is the professional environment.

It's not like out on the streets.

And they do it in a nice way, it's a nice manner.

And if a customer is belligerent, or drunk,

and becomes that asshole,

and then that's when security will step in and say,

hey, take a deep breath.

- I have to be honest, my first thoughts walking in,

you still have this bias of like, it's gonna be dirty,

and smell like cigarettes.

- It's gonna be nasty, and sex in every corner,

and chaos around, and everybody is shocked

the minute those doors open and they walk through,

and it's like, this is not what we expected.

Everybody says that.

- So, do people come in just to hang out?

All the time.

We get people out here for tours.

We had a tour bus out here last month of 90 people

from a community center in Reno.

- Do you ever have a moment where you're like,

I'm filing taxes for this shit?

No.

- Really? - Mm-mm.

- Happens to me all the time. - Does it?

- Sometimes I get booked for a gig and I'm like wow,

I'm talking about sucking dick today?

This is kinda nuts.

- So we're gonna get ready and do some paperwork,

'cause we've gotta get you to the doctor,

and get your work card,

and getting everything going for you.

Okay.

This is your application,

and so it goes through a lot of questions.

So, any misdemeanors, any theft, embezzlement.

Wait.

So these are major questions.

If any of these are yeses,

then you will not get a work card.

- What's a controlled substance, is that weed?

- That's drugs, any kind of drugs.

What is really cool to me

is that after we fill this paperwork,

we get to walk across the street to go to the doctor?

- Yep, our medical practice is on property five days a week.

And then you'll be cleared,

and then we're gonna go to the sheriff's department,

and get your work card.

And that's your temporary card that it lets you work here

at the Mustang Ranch, legally.

It's a sheriff's card. - Oh.

It's like a courtesan green card.

- Yes. - How long does it last?

- For one year, so you have to renew it every year.

Why do they make you renew it?

To make sure you like, haven't committed a crime?

- Yep, and then we're gonna do some DC training.

- What's that? - Which is dick training.

And so, you've gotta do DCs on everybody.

Nobody told me that.

This is so exciting.

Yeah?

Do you know what that is?

Probably a sex worker.

- Isn't that somewhere you go pay like, by the hour or?

How much do you think, on average,

these women are making for one client, for an hour of sex?

- Probably more than I make in a year.

- So, we are going to Storey County Sheriff's Department,

here in Lockwood, so you can get your work permit.

They say restaurant owners

should always have been a waiter first,

and you said you've been a working girl.

Mm-hmm.

- Does that add to being a great madam?

- It does, because you've gotta be able

to understand what these ladies are going through,

and doing, and experiencing,

and you've gotta be able to walk in their shoes.

If you're gonna manage a situation,

I truly believe you should have been in that situation,

Also curious, I wanna talk about some numbers

in terms of like, what's a range?

- 'Cause it's not just about a blow job and sex.

You might wanna spend some quality time,

you might wanna spend an hour, a half hour.

It depends on the activity you wanna do.

We built up clienteles over the years,

because they know it's important to have that human touch.

They know that it's safe out here,

and the ladies too, though.

You can't just have say, okay,

well it's gonna be $1,000.

It's $1,000 for what?

You just, it's a conversation that needs to be had

with that particular girl that you're gonna go back with.

- What's the most you've seen a girl make over the 30 years,

whether it be annually, like what's just,

or even someone that sticks out in your brain?

Ay-yay-yay.

Um, she was probably one of our top bookers,

and she could probably clear $50,000 a month, easy.

Easy.

- What's the average time that a girl's like,

spending at the ranch, just to work?

Everybody's different.

I got some girls that do two weeks.

I've got some girls that will do a month

that live out of country.

- What are some of the rules at Mustang?

- One of our main policies is if you see the doctor,

you do have to stay on property,

because you're medically clear.
