He's a world famous vet

with thousands of patients

and a team that lives for animals.

He's The Incredible Dr. Pol.

Just steady pull, she'll push.

Now the nose is right there, see that?

Hang on, hang on.

Dr. Pol and his son Charles

are in the middle of an emergency.

A cow is in labor, and the calf is stuck.

This Heifer is a first Calf Heifer.

And there is some problems.

- I can't. - Just a second, Charles,

I want to move this one up. Let go.

The calf's legs are bunched up near its head.

Doc is struggling to pull them out

into an extended position.

I don't want to break a leg.

Okay, go ahead.

Nope.

It only happens in heifers where the elbows are bent

and they can push all they want,

and the calf will not come out.

And without help they die.

It takes a lot of effort and strength

to pull a calf like this.

Come on, you!

The calf's elbows were back,

which prevented it from going into the pelvis.

It's almost out.

There.

So what we have to do is

pull the legs out straight.

When the legs are straight,

you know, she starts pushing a lot harder.

Dr. Pol has adjusted the legs.

Now they can really start pulling.

Now, yeah there, see it's coming all the time.

Oh, oh, oh!

Oh yeah!

Suddenly, "voom," the whole thing comes out

and if you're not standing right

you just fall down, but that's okay.

There, we got it!

It's a live calf, and that's the main thing.

The calf and the mother

are both alive and well.

Hang on, make sure there's not a second one.

Nope, okay, close the gate, turn her loose.

She needed help,

she never would have had it by herself that way.

You know, when the feet come that close to the nose,

you gotta straighten them out.

Otherwise, they sit there like that.

And now you got a live bull.

Christmas may be coming

according to the calendar.

But it sure doesn't look like it in Middle Michigan.

So everyone is trying to make the best of it.

the weather's just been so unseasonably warm this year.

This Christmas season

we've had some exceptionally warm weather,

it's not getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.

How 'bout we, uh, why don't we put up some lights?

She's putting on her holiday weight, right?

This is Lola's first time at the clinic,

and she's expecting.

See how many babies are in there.

We brought our chocolate lab in

to find out how many pups she was gonna have.

Truth be told,

this visit's about calming

first-time daddy jitters too.

Feeling a little bit nervous

'cause we want to make sure that I'm doing everything I can

to help Lola as she has the pups,

and to make sure that she's safe and the puppies are safe,

'cause this is my first time delivering pups

or helping with her if she needs.

I'll go ahead and get the x-rays

and then I'll bring them back up.

The special thing about Lola's puppies is

they are due Christmas day.

Pretty excited for Christmas this year.

It's nice to wake up Christmas morning

and have a litter of puppies waiting for you.

She's gonna have a big ole litter.

That way they can kinda plan

and as she's having the puppies

they'll know how many to expect.

Really excited the kids are excited,

and they're hoping that

they'll be able to open their presents

and then help Lola with the pups as well.

Charles is unearthing his latest project.

As much as lights get us in the Christmas spirit,

hanging lights is one of my least favorite activities

in the world.

He's got these ideas and he starts things out

but lots of times I have to finish them off.

If you could just do me a favor and untangle these.

Ah, I thought that was gonna be your job,

I've got other stuff to do Charles!

I don't need one more thing to do this year.

You know, I got a guy for this,

I got a guy.

Let me call him, he's my light guy.

I know a guy

that is an expert, light, hanger.

The clinic can go from bright to dark

in a heartbeat.

An emergency is just arriving.

He was out playing in the yard with the kids.

I didn't see it I just seen my son cooper

come up to the house and he opened the door

and he's like, "Mom, Charlie got hit."

He went out in front of the road into the ditch,

and he got into the road and he got hit.

Grabbed a towel, scooped him up,

threw him in the car and came right down.

Dr. Elizabeth rushes everyone in on the fly.

It makes you nervous

when you hear that a dog has been hit by a car.

The first thing to do for this Pomeranian-mix,

is to check for any major injuries.

If you palpate them,

they'll show signs of pain,

they'll either whimper

or tuck up their belly away from you.

I'm sure he's just scared to death.

- The dog's in shock. - Yeah.

You're okay, buddy.

Charlie has a lot of blood

coming from his nose.

He's panting,

he's obviously very stressed.

I don't feel any like, anything that's broken.
