The first 200 lines.

Go! Go! Go!

Sorry, Dave.

We believe that there was a man critically injured on this site early this morning.

- Who? - David Trainor.

The man that attacked him was Asian.

They were trying to steal our work things, robbing us.

Dave might've been giving the guy a bit of lip.

Kris and I had a thing once. That was ages ago.

Your sister's got a little one - a wee girl.

Ruby?

It's from the same person, isn't it? The one who sent me the doll.

What about we blackmail him?

- Yeah, we don't have anything on him. - We plant it.

- Mum! - Whoa! - You've got to come with me.

- What's happened? - Just-Just come.

My friend Sarah.

She asked me to look after him tonight...

Cahya's dead. He died on the way to the hospital.

Why, Ruby? Why, why would you do that?

You must have known it was wrong.

We-We always help each other.

Whenever one of us needs it. No questions asked.

- You and Sarah. - Not just us.

Right. Well, you're gonna have to come and give a statement.

OK.

He kept saying... a word.

- What word? - Something like...

'Annisa'?

Mum.

Nadia.

No Ruby? No. I dropped her at the midwife's this morning.

She'll be here at 9. Is that OK?

Sure.

Do you wanna be present?

No.

- Uh, told them to expect a briefing. - OK.

Sandra's here too apparently.

Hm. Forensics don't usually do house calls.

Yeah.

OK, guys.

One of Scully's Indonesian crew, Cahya Wahid,

died last night from a fatal stab wound.

He was being harboured by Phillip Scully's daughter, Sarah Scully.

Also, my Ruby was involved in that, so for obvious reasons,

Denise will handle that part of the investigation. OK?

Sandra, you got something for us?

Box-cutter aka Stanley knife.

Found about 5m away from the basement window. Right.

That's blood on it. Yeah, looks like it.

I'll get DNA and print results to you as soon as I can. OK, thank you.

All right, so these guys entered the building site pre-dawn,

stumbling upon the Indonesian crew, who were sleeping there.

Now, Kris found Dave Trainor and witnessed him being

stabbed in the basement of the construction site.

They then put him into the back of the ute to the Waiheke Police Station.

Meanwhile, a wounded Cahya travelled his way to Sarah Scully's cottage,

and she said that she would hide him in the boat shed,

but he, uh... he died on the...

way to the hospital.

Yeah. What if it was the other way around?

We've only got Kris' word that it was the Indonesian guy who stabbed Dave, right?

What if it was Dave doing the stabbing?

Maybe we should be looking at him for the murder.

He'll just say it was self-defence. Kris'll back him up - true or not.

And if the knife belonged to Dave?

And if he knowingly took the knife in with him - that's intent.

I need to find Sarah Scully.

Um, David Trainor is being brought out of his coma.

Right, OK. Uh...

Well, don't let anybody in to see him until Harding has interviewed him.

No phones, no people, no nothing. Yeah?

Hey, the local guys must have known that Cahya was injured, yeah?

It makes them accessories. OK.

Let's bring them in. Keep them separate. Meanwhile, I need to get you on a ferry.

- Oh, I can do that, Jess. It's on the way. - No, it's OK. And I...

It-It'll... I'll do it.

I left the bag in the rubbish bin, get on the ferry.

Then I wait till he enters, and then I go in after him.

What if you park here? It's about, what, 60m away.

65.

Oh, give or take. Mm. So if he parks right outside, he could just,

you know, get in, get the bag before you can get there.

Well, then I follow him.

This is an island, right?

Even if he drives off, I'll be on his tail, and...

- when he stops, I'll... - I'll nail him.

Hm.

You're really enjoying this, aren't you?

A bit, yeah.

It is entrapment. We could go down for it.

Yeah, I know. And I'm in shit.

I'm in shit either way.

But are you willing to...

risk your job?

Well, I have always wanted to get into male modelling.

No, seriously. I...

I wouldn't be much of a partner if I didn't help you out, right?

Mm.

Hey. It's gonna be all good.

What kind of drugs are you gonna buy with my hard-earned money?

Don't wink at me. Don't ever wink at me. I hate winkers.

My father was a winker. Yeah, my father's a criminal.

OK, I gotta go.

Same time, same place tomorrow for the real thing.

Hey, uh...

Just call me once you've talked to Dave Trainor, yeah?

Yeah.

If you'd told me that one of your men was injured,

then we might have been able to find him and save him.

He just ran into the night.

He was frightened. He w...

We're all frightened of authorities.

Well, I have a witness that says Cahya stabbed Dave with a knife.

Was that Cahya's knife?

- I don't know. - 'I don't know.'

I-I don't know.

You need to tell me what happened in the basement.

You need to talk to me.

May I?

May I?

Hm. Scully did all your... work visas, yeah?

He looks after us.

That was taken the day before Cahya left home.

Annisa.

Mm.

I, um...

I was told that he called her name.

Ahmad.

The more you talk to me, the more I can help you.

Where are the other men?

Fishing.

For our dinner.

This place...

This place was paradise for us.

Please.

I'm gonna keep this.

- David Trainor's room, please. - No visitors.

I'm investigating a homicide.

And I'm caring for my patients. Come back tonight.

OK. You can't let anyone in to see him before me. OK?

Does it look like I will?

- Is there, um-Is there a cafeteria here? - They got rid of it.

But there's a cart outside.

How many people in the basement during the fight, Kris?

Just three.

And how many people got stabbed?

Just one - Dave.

One of the Indonesian workers, a man called Cahya,

he was found last night with a stab wound, and he later died.

Shit. I don't know what to say.

Well, are you sticking with your story? The man that you saw, the Indonesian worker,

was the one with the knife. He attacked Dave, who was unarmed.

- Yep. - Yep? - Absolutely.

Right. So say, for example,

forensics were to find a, uh...

a box-cutter in the bushes outside the basement window.

You wouldn't expect them to find Dave's fingerprints or his DNA on it. Right?

Dave might've grabbed at it, you know, to protect himself.

I'm wondering two things.

One, who comes to a construction site armed with a knife, ready to stab someone?

And two, why was that knife outside in the bushes?

OK.

OK, I didn't wanna say. OK? I didn't wanna badmouth a mate, who's maybe dying.

Dave's a hothead. He's a bad drunk. We have to get him out of fights...

every weekend. I mean, he's a fucking liability.

I saw Dave pocket a box-cutter when he got out of the ute.

After he was stabbed, I saw it lying on the ground.

I just...

threw it out the window.

Mm.

He'd do the same for me. He's a mate.

You can answer it.

Sarah.

We've been trying to get hold of you.

I just identified Cahya's body.

I was his emergency contact, and I didn't even know that I was.

Sometimes I'm the only person in the country that they even know.

OK, how did he come to be at your place after he was injured, huh?

He just turned up.

He was so scared.

You wouldn't let me take him to the doctor. He said he was going to be OK.

And he made me promise not to tell anyone - not even Dad.

Why?

Cos he didn't have a work permit.

I've been really slack.

He was just so paranoid that he was going to get caught and sent home.

It's my fault he's dead. I should've made him get help.

I've just never seen a dead person before.

Hey, come here. Come here.

OK. Look...

you're going to have to come in and make a formal statement, Sarah.

Can I do it on the island? Cos I have to go there.

Sure. I'll ring Sergeant Abernathy and tell her

that you're gonna come in to make the statement.

Sarah, listen. You have to turn up. If you

don't, I will look for you, and I'll find you,

and I will lock you up myself. Do you understand?

OK.

Right. So you're saying that there was blood on the knife from both men?

Cahya and Dave Trainor, yeah?
