Daly: Let the battles begin!
Last night, the Season 12 battles
got off to an electrifying start...
Come on! ...with the help of four of the biggest advisers
we've ever had.
Finally. You got me.
Luke: "The Voice" has really amazing coaches out there,
facilitating these dreams.
Watching stars be born...
I don't think that ever gets old.
This is about seizing that moment.
No pressure.
You might want to push yourself to be a little raspier.
I think all of us know what it's like to hear "no"
and what it's like to keep working until you get the "yes."
Very nice.
I know where we about to go.
Coming up in the game, I ain't never had this opportunity.
at one time.
Yeah! Wow!
Daly: And global music superstar Céline Dion.
Céline: The most important thing is to be the best of yourself
while you sing.
As far as I'm concerned,
this is the Olympics.
You're blowing my mind.
Daly: Tonight, our coaches and advisers
turn up the heat...
You twirl her,
and you're flipping your dadgum hair,
and y'all are like...
Get your bodies into this thing.
Oh, my God.
That was incredible!
Pff. Wow!
Buh-bye.
Céline has left the building.
Mind blown.
The first half, just kind of nail it.
Oh, we're gonna work. Right.
Daly: ...leading to the most intense night of battles yet...
Whoo!
The ladies are gonna just eat you alive.
I was so mesmerized by your body.
Whoo-hoo!
I want to see it again.
It was so good. I'm sure you do.
I hope you're not available to steal,
'cause I'll probably lose my girlfriend.
You're so dumb.
Help me decide.
You're Alicia Keys. You're smart.
Don't help him. Hey, Zack Morris,
I'm not even talking to you right now.
Daly: ...and the most unexpected steal of the season.
Wow! Oh, my God. What's going on?
Daly: Night two of the battles starts right now.
Even though we're rivals,
we can agree on one thing. Yeah.
That we're better than them. Yes.
Particularly Adam.
In so many ways.
Adam is probably getting
another, like, rinse in his hair.
I'm actually hoping he rinses that out.
Just like the... Hey, can I get the bottle
of the Billy Idol to put in my hair?
Oh, hey, buddy.
Call me Billy Idol all day.
I did, I did.
He's a badass.
You are on Gwen's team right now.
Look who I have on... I'm joking, baby.
I have on my team today.
Daly: Now let's meet Gwen's first pairing of the night...
32-year-old Johnny Gates from Providence, Rhode Island,
versus 24-year-old Sammie Zonana from Austin, Texas.
Johnny: My family was super Italian.
If you ever watched "The Godfather,"
it was kind of that vibe.
I've been playing in bands all my life,
and we got to open for Rod Stewart.
I'm 32 now.
I really do feel like this is my last big shot.
Yeah!
You have such presence up there.
He's got the moves like Jagger.
But your voice is incredible.
I feel like out of the choices that you have,
it's so obvious.
Us garage-band kids have to stick together.
Yes! Aw!
Sammie: I have my own entertainment wedding business,
but I'm also planning my own wedding.
I met my fiancée, Brooke, in college.
Alicia: You took that song, and you made it, like,
a different type of place.
When you sing, there's a lot of emotion,
and I feel like I could really relate to that,
and I'm so excited.
Sammie: Gwen gave Johnny and I Céline Dion's cover
of "I Drove All Night."
Can you believe we're singing Céline Dion?
No. It's Céline!
These are gonna be big shoes to fill, I think. Yeah.
We wanted to put our own little twist on it.
Johnny: And I'm excited to present what we thought of to Gwen
and see what she says about it.
Hi, guys. Hey, the party's on.
Look who came to hang out with you.
No way.
Sammie: Our adviser is Céline Dion,
which was a big surprise,
because we're singing her song.
We've been talking about you all day.
I mean, she's like the most famous female singer,
like, on the planet.
Hi. How are you? Good.
And then I see Gwen,
and it's an honor to just be in the presence.
I think that if you're coming from, like, playing in a band
and, like, writing songs... Yeah.
...then you kind of have to be together.
Gwen: I paired Johnny and Sammie together
because they both come from
this organic, alternative band world.
I wanted to do one of her songs
because I thought, "How great would that be
to, like, have her here?"
The song works in a rock way, in a pop way...
Yeah. ...and has so much history with different styles.
It's been traveling through time,
because from Roy Orbison to Cyndi Lauper to me.
Yep. And you could still play that song today
and make it different. Sammie: Yeah.
Awesome. That's kind of like what we did with this.
So let me hear it.
Johnny: It's a nerve-racking thing.
You're singing in front of Céline Dion.
And not only that, you're singing her song.
Céline Dion is singing with us.
You're bringing an indie, like, alternative newness to it.
But work the room a little bit.
Yeah. And that's what Céline does so well.
She has that body language
that speaks to so many different people
around the world. 2, 3, 4!
It's so original.
I'm really, really thrilled.
Oh, my God!
That was incredible!
Pff. Wow!
That was incredible!
Yay! Johnny: That was awesome.
That was cool. That was fun.
Buh-bye.
Céline has left the building.
Oh, my God.
It feels like you're in a band together.
I'm so excited.
Let's just experiment tomorrow with the band
and get it really super, like...
it would be on alternative radio. Yeah.
It looks like I'm gonna have to put this song back on my show...
Oh, my God. ...but I'm gonna have to use your version.
Daly: With their battle nearing,
Johnny and Sammie join Gwen and Céline Dion
Gwen: Johnny... he's got a lot of personality.
He's a great character voice.
Gwen: Sammie... she's got a lot of honesty in her vocal style.
They could make records that people would like,
and it's so exciting to discover people like that.
Céline: The end...
I wanted to have the end not unison,
because it didn't work for me.
You know, like, harmonized a little bit.
I'll tell you what I missed from yesterday. Okay.
You guys were so connected.
you need to take the guitar off.
I think you have a little bit of both that way, yeah.
Okay. I can get up in your grille, Sammie.
Get over here. I can get up in your grille.
