Fable of facts 1970 EN
A Commentary by Beringen
According to Samuil Marshak's poem. The drawing of the cartoon tells in verse about what changes have occurred in people's lives in the years that have passed since the arrival of Soviet power in the country. Of course, it is naive and a bit pathetic, but

We were four pioneers

One Sunday,

Suddenly in the distance we heard thunder

And a spring rain started pouring down.

From the hailstones that fell from the sky,

From lightning and thunder

Us guys fled to hide under an awning.

From the entrance of some home.

came an old man wiping his glasses,

he took out a cigarette

and began a long conversation

With a short question:

You're probably residents of Moscow?

Yes, we're local - from Arbat-street.

Well, if you say so,

Whose is that house, guys?

Whose is that house?

What house?

The one where it says "Deli"

And that has newspapers on the wall.

Nobody's, - said one pioneer.

Another said: - USSR.

While the third said: - the Moscow City Council.

The Daughter of Chamberlain Khitrovo

Was the lady that owned the house,

I wasn't aware of it myself,

But that daughter is familiar to me.

Inside the entrance she would not let us,

But naughty children as we were,

With the landlady sometimes

we rode the coach.

Not on the pillows beside her,

At the rear - on the footboard.

I drove out like lackeys

with hat and gloves.

What do you mean, Grandpa, with "lackeys"? -

asked one of the kids.

And what is a "Chamberlain"? -

asked the older pioneer.

They only difference is,

that first was in livery,

And the second - in an uniform of gold,

with a sword, a St. Anne's crest & ribbon,

and a Vladimir cross around his neck.

So, to come back to it...

this Chamberlain Khitrovo.

He was a very wealthy man

And the daughter inherited

his house in Moscow,

an estate and lots of money.
