English subtitle preview

The first 148 lines.

Strange, isn't it?

Why are you so special to Charlie?

Charlie's foster parents are his guardians. They're his "den," if you like.

I can understand why they'd be special to him.

But you.

Aside from the fact that you're very cute and very clever,

you're just a completely ordinary girl.

So I took the liberty of looking into you.

You have something of an unusual background yourself, don't you, Lucy?

Whatโ€ฆ are youโ€ฆ

Oh. I don't think I've ever seen you this shook up, Lucy.

I see, I see.

This is interesting.

The two of you are on a real journey of identity.

Let's wait a little longer. This will be over soon,

and the next door will open.

This is truer than principles Discovered by geniuses like XY

You are so captivating That I can't take my eyes off you

We are merely beings who are just living

But we are beings unlike any other

You make me wonder

Actors caught in a drama Unaware of the ending

Our "relationship chart" is still blank And it bothers me

We only want to share laughter Yet somehow end up hurting each other

It wasn't supposed to be like this

I wonder what principles or clues Apply to our relationship

A stereo yearning to blend Like left and right

Could it be love? I don't know

Are we at odds? I don't think so

It's a frustrating thing And I can't even tell if it's real

Just how deep is our relationship? Why can't it be measured?

I want to know you I want you to know me

And what's the level of expectation When we get to know each other?

I know nothing else but the long-sought Love, and I want to seek it out

You make me wonder

Just beyond words

You make me wonder

EPISODE 10 DOOR TO ACCELERATED ADVANCEMENT

It's a fake. We never intended to kill you.

I was wondering why my vision was limited.

Charlie.

What?

If you don't want to speak for the animals,

if you only want to focus on helping human beings, that's fine.

But at this very moment, animal exploitation is

endangering the human environment.

Greenhouse gases from livestock cause global warming.

Animal-based diets are driving a public health crisis.

Ecological destruction brings diseases transmitted by wild animals.

Humans themselves are finally starting to recognize these risks.

But paying lip service to ideals like sustainability won't change anything.

That's what I learned on the battlefield.

The ALA is actually working

to make those ideals a reality.

In the long term, our actions will benefit humanity as well,

not just the animals.

If you want to lessen the suffering and death in this world even a little,

then join us, Charlie.

You know, I think human language is a highly versatile software.

But even if another species could suddenly speak English,

there's no guarantee you could actually communicate.

What are you trying to say?

How can I put this?

I mean,

I don't feel any responsibility toward this world at all.

I just kind of got tossed into it, after all.

But isn't there anything you want?

For starters, I want to go to school with Lucy, I guess.

Sorry.

You're incredibly strong,

but not very heavy.

You lose power in a straightforward strike.

I won't let go.

Charlie.

Lucy, can you walk?

You okay?

What about you? What happened to your voice?

It's fine.

Well, goddamn.

Guess this is where I surrender.

Watch out. He's still got something up his sleeve.

Lucy's unharmed, as promised.

Shall I fulfill my other promise too?

To tell you about your birth?

Lucy. Stay here.

She's here.

It's Lydia Eldred, the homeowner.

Is she breathing?

Looks like she's fine.

Did you find Lucy Eldred?

We're checking her room.

She's not here.

You know, I'm just over the moon here, Charlie.

Getting to meet you again like this.

Just the info. And keep it short. Or I'll truss you up right now.

Fifteen years ago,

in the ALA's early days, they released chickens from their coops,

graffitied walls, that kind of thing.

But just as the Internet started to become ubiquitous,

the number of "jobs" began to increase.

One day, there came a request, for the ALA to expose this facility

carrying out illegal experiments on animals.

That facility was

the Stollard Biological Research Institute.

That's right. The place where your mother, Eva,

was kept as a lab animal.

And the one who made the request

was a researcher at the labโ€ฆ

Dr. David Grossman.

Your biological father, Charlie.

What?

You mean it was Dr. Grossman who reported the lab,

even though he was the one doing the experiments?

Before I go on, might I digress a little,

and explain more about the ALA's "work" at the time?

Fine.

It generally went like this.

First, company A asks the ALA to expose

company B's illegal animal experiments.

Then we raid company B's lab

and attract the media's attention, the police step in, and voilร .

The villains are arrested.

Happy days.

But in fact,

the two companies were competitors, you see?

Company A wanted to damage their rival's reputation and gain the upper hand.

Meanwhile,

they were almost certainly carrying out similar experiments of their own.

But that didn't make company B any less blameworthy.

This way, we were able to get sponsors to fill the ALA's coffers.

Most of the ordinary members were totally naive, they had no idea about all this.

Anyway, all of this

is to say it was an animal rights group in name only.

A hive of small-timers and morons.

And I was fed up.

We were never going to change the world that way.

In fact, everything we did just helped reinforce the status quo.

And that was when

Dr. Grossman showed up on our proverbial doorstep.

His request was nothing like our usual jobs.

He brought us loads of data, proof of the Institute's illegal experimentation,

and said he wanted us to raid the lab where he himself worked.

It was strange.

Why didn't he just take all that proof

to the police or the ASPCA?

But the doctor wouldn't explain.

He just asked if we'd do it or not.

Well, who are we ordinary folk to question a genius?
