and I came across posts about this group called Twin Flames Universe.

So I joined the Facebook group of Twin Flames Universe,

where a lot of people are gathering,

and the level of obsession just really blew me away.

It seems like a cool spiritual community from all over the world,

sharing tips to fall in love.

There was clearly a lot of adoration around the two founders, Jeff and Shaleia,

who say that they have a unique connection and channel to God.

Jeff and Shaleia literally say,

"God told us who your perfect partner is, and we will help you find them."

I knew I had found the idea for my next article.

I was working at a gas station in the center of New York State

in the middle of nowhere.

People are very conservative, very redneck-y.

I was feeling very alone.

Ever since I was a kid, I've always been an extremely spiritual person.

It's a fundamental part of who I am.

December 2016, going into 2017, I made my New Year's resolution.

I'm going to fall in love for the first time.

I'm going to let somebody in for the first time.

And then a month later, that's how I met my twin flame.

I got to know this person, who is nothing like me,

somebody I shouldn't be attracted to. I'm a trans woman.

The last thing a trans woman should be into

is a guy from a conservative, middle of nowhere, country background.

He was kind of coming on to me, but without words,

you know, when somebody who's shy really is into you,

and they're trying to like, get you to notice them.

I mean, imagine being in his shoes.

Being in a conservative area and actually being into a trans woman

and trying to reach out to me and get to me,

but being scared that I might not receive that.

Why do I feel connected to a person like this? Like, this just isn't me.

I don't want to be involved with somebody like that.

I ended up searching online for... What is this? What is going on?

And I stumble across the term "twin flames."

The fuck are twin flames?

A twin flame is like a super spiritual soulmate,

someone who is actually the other half of your soul.

So there's this divine component to it,

where this connection that you have with your twin flame

supposedly continues across multiple lifetimes,

and it's an idea that's really gaining currency.

Megan Fox says that Machine Gun Kelly is her twin flame.

And actually Ryan Gosling had to file a restraining order

against a fan who was convinced that he was her twin flame and was stalking him.

It sort of made sense because it described a lot of the things

that I was feeling towards this guy,

you know, this irrational connection towards someone.

And they seem like this other part of you that you can't let go of.

And why shouldn't there be someone who is the exact partner that I seek?

Why should that not be available in the world?

I just want the one, you know what I mean?

Why have all the bullshit when you could just have the one person?

I think people are searching for greater meaning in their dating life,

and Twin Flames Universe is responding to that by giving people meaning and love.

My family life was not very good growing up.

My biological mom left me at 11 years old,

and then my stepmom came in with a ruling force.

Yeah, I've been through a lot of trauma, but it's what has made me me.

And it makes me stronger every single day.

I was like, 24, 25, when I first found out about twin flames.

And I was like, "Oh, okay, cool."

You know, I want to learn everything about this.

So I'm researching Twin Flames Universe,

I am watching all these YouTube videos.

These are two people that seem to have it together,

that seem to understand their love for each other,

and seem to have accomplished something that I'm seeking, you know?

But really what drove me wasn't necessarily the idea of a partner.

It was the fact that a lot of their teachings were based on self-development

and trying to first seek yourself,

and the partner would be the consequence.

You become really strong,

you become really sharp, you get a really joyful life.

So that's the ultimate focus of the lifestyle that we're sharing.
