You know, I had quit smoking...

...for about a year

before we were cut off from my daughter.

and that she was better served to work for them.

That's when it started not feeling right.

That's when... she effectively disappeared.

We were looking for answers 'cause we did not understand.

When I met Colby, I was working in a grocery store.

I was in the meat and seafood department for the first time, without any training.

And I was terrified of everything in that department.

The meat grinder scared me. The smell scared me.

The floor was covered in a layer of fat, so it was slippery.

And he came in and helped me during that shift

and pretty much saved me.

I thought maybe it was a sign, or something, we were supposed to meet.

He would buy me coffee before our shift started.

He would buy me lunch, and it was always my favorite vegan rolls.

I was pansexual,

and he was okay with that.

The first step is you write a sentence

about, you know, "I'm upset because of..." something.

I am upset at Bob because he is rejecting me.

Step two, you write that sentence,

but you switch all of the nouns to point to yourself.

I am upset at myself because I am rejecting myself.

Go within to meet that part of you.

Ask what it needs to feel loved,

and give it until that part is satisfied.

I had spent a lot of my life feeling like I was to blame

for a lot of my issues already.

So the mirror exercise seemed like a way to take that mindset

and do something good with it.

It took me a little bit. I had some resistance at first to...

to loving myself,

to doing a mirror exercise, to doing my first mirror exercise.
